White Lung has dropped the video for their latest single “Below”, taken from their forthcoming album Paradise. Lead singer Mish Barber-Way describes the track, somewhat perfectly, as “my Stevie-Nicks-meets-Celine Dion ballad”. The track is based on a quote by Camille Paglia “Beauty fades. Beauty is transient. That is why we value it”. This is a song about the preservation of glamour and beauty; it’s defiant and raw, delivered with the band’s usual energy and passion.
The video was directed by Richard Bates Jr (Suburban Gothic, Excision and Trash Fire) and stars AnnaLynne McCord along with other Marilyn Monroe look-alikes.
Bates says of the video: “White Lung play for an audience of impersonators who come to the realization that they've betrayed themselves in the pursuit of fame. ‘Below’ is a love-letter to influential female artists from the past. Our video serves to reinforce the notion that what makes an artist special cannot be manufactured."
Paradise is released on 6 May via Domino.
