A recap of the week’s finest new music.
Amelia Airhorn – Miracle
Two of our favourite artists (The Knocks and Skylar Spence) have united to form the disco-Avengers aka Ameila Airhorn. Their debut track is “Miracle”, a song so laden with groove we defy you to remain motionless. The track is accompanied by an animated visualiser depicting Amelia experiencing different aspects of the city which was hand-drawn by Ida Chelengar, you can view this here
FEMME – Fire With Fire
FEMME makes a very welcome return with garage-infused banger “Fire With Fire”, think old school vibes channelled by an kaleidoscopic pop talent. “Fire With Fire” is the first track to be released from FEMME’s as-yet-untitled second album which is due to be released in 2018. FEMME plays a headline show at Heaven on 6 December, tickets available here
LOXE – another day (ft. TĀLĀ & Soule)
LOXE has teased the release of his debut mixtape x TAPE with new single “another day” which features TĀLĀ and Chicago rapper Soule. It’s a potent and left-field collision of beats that has us pretty excited for the mixtape which will also feature the likes of Frank Gamble, Kastro and CUBA. x Tape will be released on 30 June.
FTSE - Work U Out (ft. Shola Ama & Donae'o)
Birmingham-born producer FTSE has called in Shola Ama and Donae’O for “Work U Out”. Featuring Shola Ama’s sultry and unmistakeable vocal and Donae’O’s signature flow, it’s a track that deserves to be heard throughout the summer, there’s no tiring of this one. “Work U Out” is released via Ministry.
Bok Bok – Island Hopping
Night Slugs are readying the release of Salvage 2017, the new four-track EP from label head, London-based DJ and producer Bok Bok. The EP’s opener “Island Hopping” is a track that toys with your mood, bright and upbeat on first listen but driven by relentless and grinding bottom-end . Salvage 2017 will be released on 9 June.
HALFBROTHER – God Bless England
HALFBROTHER, the duo comprised of Murkage Dave and Patrick Scally, have dropped their new track “God Bless England”. A sharp dissection of post-Brexit Britain, the duo describe the track as “prayer for the nation” as the country gets ready to head to the polls. With a sound that defies categorization, HALFBROTHER have quickly established themselves as one of the most astute observers of 21st century life.
ROOM8 – Just You & I (ft. The Sound Of Arrows)
Los Angeles/ Stockholm based artist production duo ROOM8 are back with the luscious “Just You & I”, and like all pop songs should, it features The Sound Of Arrows on vocals. “Just You & I” is an atmospheric and emotive track that pulls at the right heartstrings.
Cherryade – Theresa May (Bullshit)
Our favourite pop agitators Cherryade have shared their typically no-nonsense track “Theresa May (Bullshit)”. There’s nothing suitable about this song but we wouldn’t have it any other way. They had this to say about the track: “We wrote parts of this song a while back, but it feels relevant now more than ever. At the end of the day we make pop music but don’t want to shy away from talking about issues that affect us, and end up dumbing things down for the sake of getting on radio or playlists. It’s a song that says everything but nothing at the same time - just like most politicians.”
