Now with two killer singles, it’s time you get to know Teflon Sega. The singer melds his old-school gift for crafting haunting lyrics with future-facing electronic-R&B. The sound might be ethereal and otherworldly but the music remains rooted in reality by his words and those reverb-soaked vocals.
New single “Beretta Lake” has that hazy, midnight vibe and articulates a feeling of despair and isolation that’s incredibly profound. The track was co-produced by WAJU and Fallen (WAJU also produced Teflon's debut track “Sinner”). "It's a song about staring at the end," Teflon says of the track. "The feeling of a lonely highway through the endless dark into the night.
We spoke to Teflon to get an insight into one of music’s most exciting new voices.
How would you describe your sound?
The sound feels like "life in slow-motion"
Why did you start making music?
I think there’s something about music connected deep to our core... we all resonate to a frequency. I’m just trying to tap into my own… you know.
How do you approach songwriting, what’s your creative process?
These songs are birthed from those wild nights you wouldn’t believe. When life happens the pen follows.
What was the last record you heard that you really loved?
I heard a song by Son Lux today that really brought light through my window.
You have SAINt JHN on your new single; can we expect more collaborations with other artists in the future?
I usually write music alone in a dark basement in Harlem. I’d say the chances are slim.
New single has “Beretta Lake” has a midnight vibe, what’s so inspiring about the night-time?
The dreamy midnight hours are the closest we will ever get to creative perfection, I believe. I exist in these hours for as much as my day as possible. The absence of light is beautiful.
In an age of oversharing you’re pretty enigmatic, is it important to you keep some things private?
I will admit I don’t like the idea of growing up in public..
What's next for you?
It’s the fast life over here. Maybe someone can loan me a pair of breaks...
“Beretta Lake” is out now and released via Seeking Blue Records.
