LA-based duo THEY., who first caught our attention with tracks like “Say When” and “Deep End”, are back with new track “Rather Die” – an inspired flip of Nirvana’s “Polly”. The Seattle icon’s riff lends itself perfectly to the THEY.’s free-flowing blend of hip-hop, it’s a match made in heaven.
THEY. take the conventions of many genres and fuse them together, their disregard for being pigeonholed makes them infinitely fresher than their peers. Their tracks are polished but retain a rawness, an unfiltered spirit that means their output is always unpredictable, always exciting.
THEY. said to The Fader: “I’ve always felt that it’s important for an artist to pay tribute to what first inspired you. we were vibing out on guitar and started playing “Polly”. it’s just one of those riffs that hits you from the first moment you hear it. before we knew it we have our own song to it. all the business people begged us to change it but we couldn’t bring ourselves to change it. we did what was best for the song and our fans just let it be what it was intended to be, two guys vibing to one of their favorite riffs of all time."
“Rather Die” is out now.
